Tandoori Chaay – A Unique Tea

During our India visit this time, when we visited my hometown, Coochbehar we were very happy to see the famous Rashmela was in full swing.

Like always, there are so many shops in the fair and they sell everything from food to magic tricks to clothes and what not.

This time we came across a unique form of tea called Tandoori Chaay. As I did not hear this name earlier, I asked whether they made the tea in Tandoor. The owner of the shop told me to have a look when it was prepared and I was surprised by the innovation.

Here is how it was prepared. They superheat the clay cups(maatir bhaanr) and cook them in Tandoor oven. They are taken out and placed inside a brass vessel and hot masala tea is poured over them. The tea immediately bubbles up and froth is created and they do this with one or two tandoori-heated cups and the bubbled-up overflowing tea gets a very unique taste which they serve.

During our stay, we atleast visited the shop more than 3 times and thought of sharing with all of you.

I am sure you would have loved the taste as much as we had loved them.
